Changes in the new Industrial Stormwater General Permit

The new Industrial Stormwater General Permit became effective January 1, 2010. Changes to the permit include:

  • New Mandatory BMPs.
  • Benchmarks now trigger action for all parameters – no more Action Levels.
  • Copper benchmark has been reduced from 149 μg/L to 14 μg/L.
  • Level 2 and 3 corrective actions now triggered on an annual basis.
  • Numeric effluent limits now apply to facilities with discharges to 303(d) waterbodies. Some sites must commence fecal coliform sampling.
  • Monthly visual inspections now required.
