UST Closure - Bellingham, Washington
permanently closed an abandoned UST system in August, 2002, Two tanks were removed
from the ground.
A remedial action was conducted which
involved characterizing the type of soil contamination at the site, removing all
accessible PCS, hauling the PCS to a licensed treatment and disposal facility,
and collecting soil samples to evaluate the soils remaining at the site.
Approximately 27.5 tons of soil were removed from the site.
The location of the removed tanks was paved over as part of a widening project
on East Sunset Drive. The area and surrounding site is effectively covered with
impervious surfaces and minimal infiltration will occur at the site once the
construction project is completed.
