RCRA Site Closure - Ferndale, Washington

is currently awaiting certification of a RCRA clean
closure of two surface impoundments which previously contained oily process
wastewater. A closure plan was negotiated with the Environmental Protection
Agency and the Washington State Department of Ecology which provided for the in
situ bioremediation of non-hazardous hydrocarbon-impacted soils. The remediation
required excavation of soils which were subsequently spread on the basin floors
for bioremediation. An active program of tilling and nutrient application
enhanced the natural degradation of hydrocarbons. The project required complete
delineation of hydrocarbon-impacted soils and the
installation of an appropriate groundwater monitoring system.
